The Central Board of Assessment Appeals, in coordination with the Municipality of Bantay, Ilocos Sur, successfully celebrated the 2017 Elderly Filipino Week through an Orientation and Free Legal Consultation for the Elderly on Real Property Tax (RPT) last 13 October 2017.
Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 470, s. 1994 which mandates the annual celebration of Elderly Filipino Week or Linggo ng Nakatatandang Filipino every first week of October to emphasize the important role of older persons in nation building, as well as raise awareness, and address issues concerning the older persons’ sector, the CBAA gave an orientation on real property tax assessment and collections, provided free legal consultation on real property issues, and ensured that different concerns of the elderly on RPT were addressed equally and equitably.
A total of 800 participants,who were mostly leaders of the senior citizens’ organizations of the different barangays in Ilocos Sur, attended the program and were expected to echo their learnings to their members.
This year’s theme, “Pagkilala sa Kakayahan, Ambag at Paglahok ng mga Nakatatanda sa Lipunan”, aimed to give recognition to older persons for their valuable contribution to the society.
